8 family members killed in rural Ohio; gunman on the loose

Police have confirmed that a family of eight have been shot in the head by an unidentified gunman in rural southern Ohio.

Authorities have reportedly talked to more then 30 people but haven’t identified a single person. They are asking residents to be vigilant and cautious as the search continues.

According to reports, the eight family members–seven adults and one 16-year-old–were killed at four different properties.

The bodies were discovered early Friday. Police said that they were murdered “execution-style,” shot dead in their beds. A preliminary investigation has revealed that none of these killings were by suicide.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine said that the last name of the victims was Rhoden. The first names were not revealed. “If I was a member of that family, I would be extra cautious right now,” he added.

After more searches, police found three babies (four-day old), six-month-old, and three-year-old) at different shooting locations.

“This is a devastating time for a family,” said Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader.. “We’ve never had a shooting with eight victims.”

“We’ll find who did this,” he added.

Police have already notified and are talking to the family. Forensic investigations and massive searches are ongoing.

“There is a strong possibility that any individuals involved with this are armed and extremely dangerous,” said Mr Reader. “There may be one, there may be two, there may be three, we just don’t know … We’re very early in this investigation.”
